On the morning of April 30, 2025, at the Hien Luong Flagpole in the Hien Luong - Ben Hai Special National Relic, Quang Tri province held the "National Reunification" Flag Raising Ceremony on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and the 53rd anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Tri Province (May 1, 1972 - May 1, 2025).

Attendance at the ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Dang Quang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Ha Sy Dong, Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Dao Manh Hung, Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, along with members of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee; Standing members of the Provincial People's Council, leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; leaders of departments, localities, organizations, armed forces and districts, towns, cities, and a large number of people inside and outside the province.

In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the sacred red flag with a yellow star was raised to the top of the flagpole while the majestic national anthem resounded in the sky on the banks of Ben Hai River. Thousands of people, veterans and tourists present were moved and proud as they sang together the “Tien quan ca” - the national song of VietNam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam emphasized that Quang Tri - the beloved Central region - a place soaked in the blood and tears of many generations of heroes - is the bridgehead connecting the North and the South, a steadfast fortress, protecting the socialist North, supporting the Southern frontline, and at the same time opening a strategic corridor for the Indochinese countries. The 1954 Geneva Agreement temporarily divided the country at Hien Luong Bridge, causing our people pain and suffering. The US imperialists betrayed the agreement, with the goal of turning the South into a military base, causing much sorrow and devastation to the people. During those painful years, the flag on the Hien Luong flagpole still stood proudly and steadfastly, becoming an immortal symbol of the will to unify the country and of the people across the country. Thanks to the strength of that belief and indomitable will, the army and people of Quang Tri, together with the people of the whole country, have made resounding achievements: with Vinh Linh as a strong steel fortress; Gio Linh, Trieu Phong, Hai Lang, Cam Lo, Dong Ha steadfast and indomitable; with the ancient citadel of Quang Tri immortal through 81 days and nights of blood and fire; with Route 9 - Khe Sanh echoing the heroic song of victory and Con Co shining with the flowers of victory, Quang Tri has made a worthy contribution to the historic victory of the nation - the Great Victory of Spring 1975 - a brilliant page in the thousand-year journey of building and defending the country.
The war has long since ended, but Hien Luong - Ben Hai, the place that once divided the country, has now become a shining symbol of steadfast belief and the aspiration for unification, peace and development. In order to promote the revolutionary tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Quang Tri are determined to unite, innovate and build the province to become increasingly prosperous, worthy of the sacrifices of our ancestors and the trust and love of the whole country.

At the ceremony, special performances were performed, creating a heroic atmosphere, leaving a good impression on local people as well as tourists coming to Quang Tri.
