On April 18, 2025, Gio An Commune People's Committee held a Conference to announce the Decision on recognizing Gio An Ancient Well Community Tourism Site which is a unique historical, cultural and natural heritage, the pride of Gio An people in particular, Gio Linh district and Quang Tri province in general.
Overview of the Conference
Participating in the Conference were representatives of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Agency, the Provincial Tourism Association, representatives of the People's Committee of Gio Linh district and Gio An commune, along with many local people and businesses operating in the tourism sector.

The Gio An ancient well system was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic. This is one of the unique ancient well systems remaining in Vietnam, dating back more than 1,000 years, built by the ancient Cham people. The project not only has architectural and historical significance but also demonstrates the advanced level of irrigation techniques of the indigenous people of that period. The Gio An ancient well system is not just water wells - it is the memory, the wisdom, the strong vitality of the ancient residents, lasting through many changes of the times.
On behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, the representative of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented the Decision of recognition to Gio An Commune People's Committee, recognizing the unique values of culture, history and natural landscape of the ancient well area.

The recognition of Gio An ancient well as a community tourism site opens up many opportunities for the development of eco-tourism and cultural tourism associated with the community, contributing to the preservation of the nation's precious cultural heritage and affirming the orientation of developing green tourism and connecting the community in Quang Tri province.
